Haiti Quake Appeal - EIUK Print E-mail

UPDATE: 1 September 2010

We were very encouraged by the recent report we have received from Haiti. Some schools have restarted, albeit in an area cleared of rubble and with a tarpaulin for a roof! The process of rebuilding schools and the church has begun. Pastor Martinez and Madam Emma are working so hard to make sure that the funds raised for Haiti are being used effectively.

Read the lastest update notice on the relief work being done by Emmanuel International's international office.

We are making the regular updates from the International Office available on the website. Please read these to find out what is being done and what the progress is.

If you want to donate securely online you can do so on our Haiti Earthquake Appeal Just Giving page.

UPDATE: 3 March 2010

Read the latest Fact Sheet that EI is using globally in the fund raising efforts for Haiti.

UPDATE: 10 February 2010

Nathan Colquhoun is part of an EI Canada team working with Pastor Martinez and Emma Jovin in Haiti. He is keeping a blog on his experiences, which also includes informal reports on the work progress. Nathan has given us permission to share his blog with you.

The January 2010 issue of the Down to Earth also covers our relief efforts in Haiti.

UPDATE: 28 January 2010

The immediate need for search and rescue is over. The next, enormous challenge is to provide food, water and shelter to the thousands of people who have been left homeless. EIUK is still raising funds to help Pastor Martinez achieve this. Please contact the office if you want to find out more.

Andy Atkins (who has been in Haiti this past week) has been interviewed by reporters from Rogers TV. The clip is about 2 minutes long and worth viewing.

UPDATE: 25 January 2010

Emmanuel International are thankful to hear that their Representatives in Haiti Martinez and Emma Jovin are safe although we have not been able to speak with them directly as yet. They live in Port au Prince and as far as we are aware their house is also in tact.

We have started to raise funds in response to the Earthquake and the International office have already made some available to Martinez. One of Martinez's sons went out to Haiti and we were able to give him some funds to carry down with him. This seemed to be the best and safest way of making sure the money reaches Martinez and is available to be used at this point, particularly as it is not known at the moment how the banks are working.

Andy Atkins is in Haiti at the moment to help where he can and also to assess the best way in which we can respond to help. The International office is not planning on sending anyone in at the moment although they have asked if anyone would be available to go when appropriate. The feeling is that we don't have the expertise needed at this point and may even get in the way as some one would probably need to look after us. So as far as personnel going we would be better able to offer help later with rebuilding and food distribution when things settle.

We do want to get money out urgently to Martinez to help with food/water and shelter. There is a flyer available with more information on our appeal. We don't have any pictures from Haiti directly to accompany the flyer yet as there is little communication options open to them. You can get pictures from www.ft.com website. Type in Haiti then slideshows...

We would very much appreciate your prayers for the people of Haiti. Please encourage your church to pray for the situation in Haiti and that aid can reach those who most need it. We would also ask if your church would consider making a donation to our disaster appeal. You can do so by sending a cheque to the office at the address below or you can e-mail us for bank details regarding a direct transfer. All of the money you give will go directly to those who need it in Haiti. We thank you in advance for your consideration.

We are very grateful for your joining us at this time as we together see to extend God’s love to the people of Haiti.
